Water bill creeping up? A damp spot on the ceiling, a musty smell, or the sound of running water when everything’s off? Custom Electric and Plumbing tracks down hidden plumbing leaks in homes and businesses and fixes them before they turn into bigger water damage.
Licensed, bonded & insured | 18+ years serving the Triad | 100% customer satisfaction
Signs of a Hidden Leak
- A water bill that’s higher than usual with no change in how you use water
- Water stains, bubbling paint or soft spots on walls, ceilings or floors
- A musty smell or mold in a cabinet, closet or crawl space
- Hearing water running when every faucet and fixture is off
- Low water pressure throughout the house
- On a well: the pump kicking on when no one is using water
What We Fix
- Supply line leaks: under sinks, behind toilets, at the water heater and washing machine
- Pipe leaks: copper pinholes, corroded galvanized pipe and failing fittings
- Polybutylene pipe: the gray plastic pipe common in 1980s and early 90s homes, which tends to fail at the fittings
- Crawl space leaks: a common spot in Triad homes, where small leaks can go unnoticed for months. Standing water from rain rather than a leak? See Sump Pump Installation & Repair
- Water line leaks: between the meter or well and the house
- Gas leaks: on gas lines and at appliances like fireplaces, water heaters and ranges. If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas company first. Once it’s safe, we’ll find and repair the leak. See Gas Line Installation.
If the pipe is failing in more than one place, we’ll talk through whether a repair or a whole house re-pipe makes more sense. Gray plastic pipe? See Polybutylene Pipe Replacement.
How We Find the Leak
We start with the simple checks: the water meter (or well pump), fixtures, supply lines and shut-off valves. From there we narrow it down by isolating sections of the plumbing and using the right tools for the job: a moisture meter to trace dampness, an inspection camera to see inside walls, cabinets and crawl spaces, and a Walabot in-wall scanner to find pipes and wet spots behind drywall. The goal is to find the source before anything gets opened up, so repairs are as small as possible.
How It Works
- Send us the form (or call). Tell us what you’re seeing and where.
- We find the source. We track the leak down before opening walls or floors.
- You get a clear estimate for the repair. Estimates are subject to on-site inspection.
- We fix it and test it, making sure the line holds pressure before we leave.
Small Leaks Add Up
A slow drip under a sink or in a crawl space can rot subfloors, feed mold and run up your water bill for months before anyone notices. Older pipe is often the cause, which is why we look at the condition of the line around a leak, not just the leak itself.

Frequently Asked Questions
Turn off every faucet and water-using appliance, then look at your water meter. If the dial or leak indicator is still moving, water is going somewhere. On a well, listen for the pump turning on when nothing is running.
Shut off the water at the main valve or the fixture’s shut-off, then send us a request and we’ll get to you as quickly as we can during business hours.
Sometimes, but we pinpoint the leak first so any opening is as small as possible. After the repair, we can patch the opening for you or leave it ready for your own drywall contractor, whichever you prefer.
It depends on where the leak is, how easy it is to reach and what the repair involves. We’ll give you an estimate before any repair work starts. Estimates are subject to on-site inspection.
