Signs Your Water Heater Needs Attention
- No hot water, or hot water that runs out fast
- Water that’s lukewarm no matter how you set it
- Rusty or discolored hot water
- Popping, rumbling or banging sounds from the tank
- Water pooling around the base or a dripping relief valve
- A tank that’s 10 years old or more
What We Work On
- Electric water heaters: heating elements, thermostats, wiring
- Gas water heaters: pilot, thermocouple, gas valves, venting
- Tankless water heaters: repair, descaling and replacement
- Leaks: relief valves, fittings, supply lines and failing tanks
- Replacements: same-size swaps or an upgrade if your household has outgrown the old tank
Brands we work on: Rheem, Navien, State, Bradford White, A.O. Smith, Rinnai and EcoSmart, plus most other major brands.
Because we’re licensed electricians and plumbers, we can handle the electrical side of an electric water heater and the gas line side of a gas unit without bringing in another contractor.
Repair or Replace?
Many problems have a straightforward fix: a failed heating element or thermostat on an electric unit, or a bad thermocouple, gas valve or igniter on a gas unit. A leaking tank is different. Once the tank itself leaks, replacement is the only real fix. Age matters too: if your water heater is past 10 to 12 years and needs a costly repair, a new unit is often the better use of your money. We’ll walk you through both options before any work starts.
If you’re on well water, which is common in Summerfield, Oak Ridge and Stokesdale, sediment and minerals build up in the tank faster and shorten its life. Many Triad homes also have the water heater tucked in a crawl space or small closet, so we check access, venting and the gas or electrical supply before we quote a replacement.
How It Works
- Send us the form (or call). Tell us what the water heater is doing and roughly how old it is.
- We diagnose it. We find out whether it’s a part that can be replaced or a tank that’s done.
- You choose repair or replacement with a clear estimate in hand. Estimates are subject to on-site inspection.
- We do the work and test it, checking temperature, pressure and venting before we leave.
Tank Flushes and Check-Ups
A yearly flush clears out the sediment that builds up in the bottom of the tank, especially on well water. During a check-up we also test the relief valve, look at the anode rod, venting and connections, and catch small problems before they turn into a leak or a cold shower. Tankless units benefit from regular descaling too.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most tank water heaters last about 8 to 12 years. Well water, hard water and skipped maintenance can shorten that.
Once a year is a good rule of thumb, and more often if you’re on well water or hard water. Tankless units should be descaled on a regular schedule too. We can take care of either during a check-up.
A leak from the tank itself won’t fix itself and can cause water damage. Turn off the water supply to the heater and the power or gas, then send us a request and we’ll get to you as quickly as we can during business hours.
Often, yes. It may need gas line or electrical upgrades, which we handle in-house. See our Water Heater Installation page for more.
It depends on the problem, the type and size of unit, and how easy it is to reach. We’ll give you an estimate before any work starts. Estimates are subject to on-site inspection.
